Episode 7: The Rock 'n' Roll Episode

The Rock 'n' Roll Episode

The Walter Martin Radio Hour airs every Sunday night at 8pm on WEXT in upstate NY at 97.1 / 106.1

Hi - I feel like I’ve been neglecting my first love a bit so I decided to take the bull by the horns on this episode and indulge in some of my favorite late 60’s dirtbag rock ‘n’ roll. This is the original stuff that made me decide I should stop paying attention in math class and devote my life to making music. And it was a great decision. So I’d like to thank all the a-holes in this episode for putting me up to it.

My musical horizons have broadened a lot since I first got into this stuff but I think you’ll hear in my voice that this music is still a really big deal for me. It was fun to listen to it loud while I recorded this and to remember how important it is to listen to music loud. For the first time in my life I don’t live in a city and I don’t really have neighbors, and—apart from being able to pee in my front yard on a Tuesday afternoon—the best unexpected perk of my new living situation is that I’m able to listen to really loud music whenever I want. So that’s what I do.

Funkadelic, 1969

In this episode we got through some fantastic psychedelic rock, some rough stuff from Detroit, some off-the-cuff Jimi Hendrix, some great boogies from The Dead and The Velvet Underground, some killer Jim Morrison (with a grain of salt and some live commentary), and we close with a 1962 Bob Dylan electric rocker from before he went…acoustic.

Jimi Hendrix, 1968

Have a great weekend and thanks for listening. And please share this show if you like it.
