These are so amazing, I look forward to them now every week!
I was wondering if you could shed some light on some of the influences The Walkmens You & Me album, which to me is sonically so unique and I can't put it beside anything. I wonder what you guys were listening to at the time!
When we made You & Me I feel like we were trying to do full band versions of the vibe of Leonard cohen songs like Avalanche and The Partisan. Thinking of songs like On the Water and Donde esta la Playa. And things like In the New Year were more inspired by the pogues. Lotta songs on that record with many influences but we were basically always listening to old music and trying to figure out how to update the old stuff.
oooh thats a wonderful answer. Cohen makes a lot of sense! Thanks.a lot Walter. In Seven Years of Holidays, i love the 'rumble' that you guys say the Pogues inspired. Would love to hear more about that. Great to hear some irish influence too. You should check out Paul Brady or The Gloaming if they aren't already on your radar. Republic of Loose were an old-school Dublin funk band with lots of fun songs too. Anyway, Have a great day!
Man. Love me some Donovan! I got into Donovan by watching The Rules of Attraction, based on the Bret Easton Ellis novel of the same name. I think the adaptation was kinda panned critically, but I liked it! Great soundtrack! Colors and also some cool song by The Rapture. Thanks, Walt!
Another absolute gem of a show. Hitting the vibe perfectly. I love that version of Colours (which I own now, thanks to you mentioning it on a French Friday some months ago)
Sad though I will be to see summer drift off into the past, I am already looking forward to your Autumn...er...'Fall'...sounds show.
Thanks for the show filled with very fine tunes, especially Donovan, Canned Heat and Van the Man. Went back and listened to. βI love my shirtβ, a confirmation that simple, silly songs are sooo good. I liked the Irishman in Woodstock description of Van.
Funny, I donβt know the allman bros that well apart from the big hits (even though my wife is named after an allmans song). I have the eat a peach record though. Iβll check out blue sky. Glad u liked the show βοΈ
Your βwhatβs he practicing? Band practice?β reading of NIGHT MOVES made me crack up. π
Ha - thatβs how Iβll always hear it!

Note: I was unable to include the correct versions of Donovan's Colours and Van Morrison's In The Evening When The Sun Goes Down
thanks Rob!

If you run out of show ideas, I bet people would love this β what you were listening to for each record (Walkmen & solo too)

Oh cool! Yeah Donovan rules. π€
And so many of those Donovan tracks had incredible studio musicians on them. EPISTLE TO DIPPY!!
That's Blind Owl Alan Wilson (not Eric)
our wedding recessional song was his/their song "Skat", super fun!

Thanks - glad you like the Colours too, itβs so great. Yes looking forward to some mellow fall episodes!
I'm not sure if this hour inspires me to go on a road trip or drink lemonade while sitting on a porch swing during a summer evening.

That was a great show, lots of fun. I was thinking what track if any I would add. I think The Allman Bros Blue Sky would fit the vibe.

One of the greatest albums ever
The guitar on Janis' Summertime is so good
I think "Spill the Wine" has that Freedom Flute.
Oh yes good call. It does. I love spill the wine.
