I forget where, but I read something that ran down a bunch of chart performance and record sales data from that era, where they were the only artists to out-do the Beatles. That doesn’t speak to the quality of the music, but underscores and contextualizes just how strong of a run that was.
What a great episode! The Piper at the Gates of Dawn was the second CD I bought with my allowance money and it changed how I think about art. It’s a completely crazy album, but also really playful and fun. After that, I wrote “PSYCHEDELIC” on my guitar case with paint markers. 😎
It’s kind of wild to me that Creedence came up in that San Francisco psych scene. Their 1969-1970 run is ridiculous.
Yeah pretty incredible what they did. So many fantastic songs. So many hits! Still somehow feels like they’re under appreciated.
