Ok, this week it’s two albums and a playlist!
Here’s the story with the playlist:
Recently, a group of musician friends invited me to participate in a game where everyone creates a playlist of the "20 Best Songs Ever," which we then submit for group review and debate. The phrase "20 Best Songs Ever" can be interpreted in any way you like. I’ve known these people for decades and we’ve debated music many times, so this sounded very fun—especially since they were mostly in punk bands and I had a feeling my list would stick out a bit.
So my third “album” down below is the playlist I proudly submitted. I’m pretty sure they thought my list was a joke but the only joke in there is that I did 21 songs instead of 20—just to be annoying.
Two Albums + My Playlist, “20 Best Songs Ever”
Album 1. Mozart: Requiem (Karl Bohm, 1971)
Mozart’s Requiem Mass was the last work he composed before his death, and this 1971 recording will knock your socks off. I recommend listening to it as loud as you possibly can. The Lacrimosa movement is one of the most not-of-this-earth things I’ve ever heard in my life. Honestly, it’s hard to listen to this music and think there is not a god of some sort out there — at the very least, one that helps make sure things like this get made and recorded and uploaded to Youtube.
