Music for Your Week: There's More to Life Than Bob Dylan
Three (non-Dylan) Albums for Your Week
Listen to last week’s Walter Martin Radio Hour: Live Episode | Bob Dylan Season Finale Simulcast
Ok so Bob Dylan season is now officially over. While I’m sad to say goodbye, I’m excited to finally have my life back.
This week I’m recommending three great non-Dylan albums that I really think you will love: a sweet old man, some beautiful dreamy-electro and some vivid Nova Scotian lyricism. Enjoy!
Mississippi John Hurt: Complete Studio Recordings
Mississippi John Hurt originally recorded in the 1920s but was rediscovered in the early ‘60s and enjoyed a great late-in-life comeback. I’m usually loyal to the oldest versions of an artist’s songs, but in the case of Mississippi John Hurt, I think I actually prefer this later stuff. His ‘20s recordings are great, but the fidelity in these ‘60s recordings brings you up close and lets you really experience what this guy can do. Beautiful, gentle fingerpicked guitar doing great old songs, all delivered with the sweet voice of an old man.
This is a gorgeous, deep and endlessly listenable collection that you can put on and leave on. I’ve never met someone who has said anything negative about this stuff (and I hope I never do).
