Music for Your Week: Playlist of Solo Piano Music (3hr+)
Nice long playlist of my recent solo piano obsessions
Listen to last week’s Walter Martin Radio Hour: Remembering Michael Hurley
My wife and I saw the amazing pianist Mitsuko Uchida perform last weekend at Union College in Schenectady, NY. She was absolutely phenomenal—her program included works by Beethoven, Schubert, Schoenberg, and Kurtág—and it got me back on a solo piano music tear!
So I’ve spent the week sorting through old favorites and new discoveries, and I figured I’d compile a nice long playlist of my recent solo piano obsessions.
If you're not familiar with much of this music, this playlist is a good place to start. It spans from the 17th century to the 21st, with plenty of stops along the way. I recommend listening without looking—just notice what catches your ear, then dive into those composers on your own. It’s a great (and endless!) project.
And if you know all this stuff already, please let me know what else I should check out. As I’ve explained before, I’m not an authority on classical music, I’ve just found a lot of stuff I love. And I’m always eager to find more.
Enjoy!
