Music for Your Week: Caribbean Playlist (3hr)
Music from Haiti, Jamaica, Martinique and Trinidad (*and London)
Listen to last week’s Walter Martin Radio Hour: Break out the Caribbean Records
Hi - last week’s Caribbean episode felt great. If you couldn’t tell, I love this goddamn music so much.
I had to get creative when I made this playlist because the early Bob Marley collections (and some of the Trinidadian calypso comps) on Spotify and Apple are all screwed up and some stuff is mislabeled. But I found some great additional tracks in the process.
And I found a bunch more ‘60s Jamaican covers of American and British pop—such cool stuff. So much love for the Beatles!
So, this playlist is very fun and all over the place: some traditional folk songs from Haiti and Martinique, some Trinidadian calypso, some Jamaican ska, rocksteady, dub, and early dancehall… and lots more.
But yeah this is the first of probably a few Caribbean playlists I’ll do this season, so keep your eyes peeled.
