Music for Your Week: Bobby Fever
Playlist 3hr 16min | One great song from every Bobby studio album
Listen to the latest episode of Walter Martin Radio Hour: Ok, Let’s Talk About ‘A Complete Unknown’
Ok wow, yeah I’ve got Bob Dylan fever really bad. So does my wife. It’s basically become a joke in our house. We’ve been listening to him constantly and talking about him constantly. We’re rereading Bob books and rewatching Bob documentaries. And, to annoy our daughters (who we dragged to A Complete Unknown last week) I’ve been speaking in a terrible Chalamet/Bob whine. It’s been great—and the girls definitely think we’re insane.
So I wanted to spend some time with Bobby here and I guess I wanted to start by making sure we’re all talking about the same fella—not only the Bobby in the Chalamet movie. I wanna look at the whole package—the whole career. It’s a lot, but I’m gonna make it go down easy, I swear.
I’m sure many of you have explored the whole career, but I’m also sure many have not. And many are scared to. And many are convinced it’s a waste of time. And many are convinced you only really need the pre-1976 stuff…and maybe Time out of Mind…and maybe Series of Dreams. Well, I’ve been there. But please believe me, there’s a lot more Bobby for you to love.
So today I’m offering a playlist to get the blood flowing: one great song from each of Bobby’s 40 studio albums. I spent the weekend listening through it all, and it’s amazing to hear his career unfold—from his early days, to growing restless, growing up, getting weird, getting lost, getting wise, getting old and going deeper and deeper with every album. What a guy.
