Episode 39: Break out the Caribbean Records
As much as I like snow and sledding and all that crap, to me there is nothing better than winter’s end. The little flowers start popping up, the little birds start building those little nests, and I get to break out my Caribbean records.
As I’ve explained before, there is nothing (apart from my children, my wife and one of my dogs) that I love more than Caribbean music.
So this week, we jump through the decades — from early Haitian and Martinican folk songs to Jamaican innovations of the ‘60s, ‘70s, and ‘80s, plus some ‘50s calypso and ‘70s dub made by Trinidadians and Jamaicans in London.
Oh yeah, and we also hear some cool rocksteady covers of American and British 1960s rock ‘n’ roll. Lots to digest this week.
Anyway, I hope everyone is doing ok in this totally insane world.
Sending much love and well wishes to you, and thanks for listening.
