I always thought The Pogues’ “ I’m a man you don’t meet every day” was the most Irish song ever. Really the only one I know of theirs so thank you for this playlist.
I saw Van last fall in a small jazz club in New Hampshire. I had a hilariously bad vantage point through the window of a load bearing wall and I only saw his hands. But man, he’s still got his voice he sounded so good. .Great band, good mix of hits and whatever he wanted to play. No Facebook or Ring worn song tho
Great episode! Not sure if you get into instrumental traditional, but there’s obviously so much beautiful stuff there. Two contemporary groups putting out beautiful trad are the Gloaming (featuring the American artist Thomas Bartlett) and the Martin Hayes Quartet (Martin Hayes is also in the Gloaming).
Also highly recommend Lisa O’Neill and Ye Vagabonds. Lisa O’Neill put out this beautifully creepy album called All This is Chance in 2023. Old Note from that album is really great. And Ye Vagabonds I think mostly reimagine old tunes and they’re quite beautiful. I particularly like the Foggy Dew.
Irish-American here & loved this show! Looking forward to the playlist 🍀
Love that you opened w/ Tell Me Ma - kids would sing it in a participatory playground game like red rover or duck-duck-goose
If for nothing else check out the live version of Lisdoonvarna by Christy Moore on my playlist here where he drops the tune in at the end… raucous good time being had!!
-& anyone else here - enjoy the playlist if you have time - lots of trad & some more obscure Irish artists.
I am expecting Enya on Monday's playlist. I am not joking.

That songs is one of my favorites- i should have put it in the show but time got away from me. Thank for always listening Becky!
War is U2s third album.
Ah ok yeah I’m not a U2 expert! Flag on the play! Thanks!
What a strange, ancient, beautiful island.
