Listen to last week’s episode: Classical Club #1: Stravinsky
Hello -
Thanks for all the great responses to last week’s first “meeting” of Classical Club. I’m so glad to hear that some of you are diving into Stravinsky for the first time and others are rediscovering him. Personally, I’ve been going a little crazy for The Rite of Spring (holy crap, it’s amazing). I love when classical music begs you to crank up the volume!
I was tempted to make Classical Club a full-on Stravinsky fest, but I think it’s better to keep moving to other composers. Still, I hope you’ll keep exploring him on your own. A lesser-known favorite of mine is his Funeral Song, Op. 5—written just before The Firebird. The score was lost for over a century and only resurfaced in 2016. The Philadelphia Orchestra’s recording is fab.
Classical Club Assignment #2
After the pounding drums and soaring strings of Stravinsky, I thought we could turn to something more intimate and inward-looking—something that might go down a lil easier over the dinner table. As you might remember from last winter’s sprawling Solo Piano Music Playlist, I’m a total fool for solo classical piano.
So that’s where we’re headed next.
